Das berühmte MIT hat mit Henry Jenkins einen der profiliertesten Medientheoretiker zu bieten. Jenkins bezieht individuell und konträr Position zu den Allgemeinplätzen (amerikanischen wie internationalen) der Medienkritik. So schreibt er etwa über das Thema "Gewalt in den Medien" im Artikel:

In short, teens aren't drawn to Quake or Scream because they are bloodthirsty or because they think violence is the best real-world response to their problems. These works offer them the best available vehicle for their fantasies of empowerment, take seriously what young people feel and think about the adult world, acknowledge the darker sides of the teenagers' everyday experiences, and offer an intense release from real-world tensions. If, for moral, political, or aesthetic reasons we find such violent entertainment reprehensible, then we are going to have to offer new genres that satisfy those basic urges at least as well.
